Research Collaboration / Informal Internship Statement

I am actively seeking productive research collaborations in the mentioned area. If you are interested in working together on top conference papers, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome working with both experienced researchers and motivated beginners. However, due to limited time and research capacity, I am generally unable to provide guidance for who start entirely from scratch, such as offering step-by-step technical mentorship from the ground up. I can offer, if you are willing to trust it, reference opinions and suggestions from a frontline researcher in the field. Prospective interns are therefore expected to have their own research direction, initial ideas, or preferably some preliminary progress. (However, if you are a formally affiliated member of TohokuNLP, the aforementioned requirement can be relaxed.) I am also open to exploring collaborations in other related areas where there is strong mutual methodological and research alignment.

A Template of Research Collaboration Email

Basically, I encourage anyone to boldly reach out to researchers they are interested in for research collaboration. I have also received messages from many excellent students/researchers and established long-term, highly productive, and mutually beneficial collaborations with them. However, I would still suggest that you carefully consider the form of such contact.

To write an informative and effective email for research collaboration (not only to me but also to other researchers), you may consider including the following information:

A brief self-introduction, including your current affiliation, research background, and research interests.
How you find my research and why you are interested in collaborating with me. You can mention specific papers of mine that you have read and found interesting, and what aspects of those papers attracted you.
Your research ideas and progress. You can describe your research ideas in detail, and if you have already made some progress, you can share your preliminary results or findings.
Your expectations for the collaboration. You can specify what kind of objective you are looking for, such as a paper, and how I can contribute to the collaboration.

Basically, I will not reply to emails where a lot of the above information is missing (e.g., Hello, I want to collaborate with you, can we meet online? Best, [Name]), since they do looks suspicious and dangerous like a fraud. I hope this template can help you write a more informative and effective email for research collaboration.
